EIF has confirmed its strategy for 2013 - 2015
The strategy defines the main challenges for the period as well as its development areas.
According to Marika Priske, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation, it is EIF's mission to act as a guarantor of a stable and safe domain name system, by balancing and considering the interests of the Internet community. “What the board expects from the implementation of the confirmed strategy is a rise in the quality of services of EIF and an ambitious increase of 20% of the number of .ee domains by the end of the 2013-2015 strategy period”, Priske said.
“In order to reach the goals, we will start working with challenges such as the safety of a risk-sensitive infrastructure, development of software for the domain name system and registry maintenance as well as increasing the safety of Internet usage by implementing the DNSSEC security solution”, Heiki Sibul, the head of the foundation explained. The strategy is aimed at increasing the satisfaction levels of .ee domain registrants as well as the number of domains in the registry. “One of the main challenges is in increasing the number of .ee domains in relation to the international generic top-level domains, mostly .eu”, Sibul added.
The strategy describes the main action areas of EIF and their development measures, which include guaranteeing the availability, stability and security of Domain Name System service, developments related to the domain registry and its system and increasing the safety of Internet usage. Intensifying cooperation with related groups plays an important role in the organisation's strategy for 2013-2015.
The strategy document was drawn up in cooperation between the founders and related groups of EIF, Internet Users Advisory Board and the Internet Society Chapter in Estonia.

How Estonia Tamed Domain Dropcatchers: The Story of Domain Auctions
In 2016, the .ee national domain faced a long-standing problem: the unfair technical advantage of so-called domain catchers. The solution? Implement a transparent auction system that would create a level playing field for all interested parties. It wasn’t inspired by anything else but was a purely internal initiative – with the goal of fairness, not profit. The .cz registry did an interview with our Head of Development, Timo Võhmar, and discussed our domain auction system and experiences.
