Beehosting OÜ blacklisted by Consumer Protection Board
The Estonian Internet Foundation has received multiple complaints from .ee domain registrants concerning the registration service provided by Beehosting OÜ, assuming that the company is an accredited .ee registrar. While third persons are not prohibited from selling .ee domains, the Foundation can only help users if the company concerned is an accredited .ee registrar.
The Consumer Protection Board has officially identified an infringement of the Consumer Protection Act by Beehosting OÜ and has issued a injunction requiring the company to bring an end to the infringement, which the company has not complied with. Beehosting OÜ entered into a contract with a consumer for the registration of a domain name, for which the consumer paid a fee. Beehosting OÜ failed to provide the service and the consumer wished to withdraw from the contract; however, the trader did not return the amount paid by the consumer. The Consumer Protection Board found that the consumer had the right to withdraw from the contract. Beehosting OÜ failed to comply with the injunction issued by the Consumer Protection Board, and was subsequently blacklisted by the Board. Further information is available here.
We would like to stress again that while third persons are not prohibited from selling .ee domains, the Foundation is only able to supervise and monitor the activities of our official contractual partners.

How Estonia Tamed Domain Dropcatchers: The Story of Domain Auctions
In 2016, the .ee national domain faced a long-standing problem: the unfair technical advantage of so-called domain catchers. The solution? Implement a transparent auction system that would create a level playing field for all interested parties. It wasn’t inspired by anything else but was a purely internal initiative – with the goal of fairness, not profit. The .cz registry did an interview with our Head of Development, Timo Võhmar, and discussed our domain auction system and experiences.
